Brazil is Latin America's largest country and the world's seventh largest economy.

The long-standing relation between Brazil and Europe is based on deep-rooted cultural and historical ties. Brazil was one of the first countries to establish diplomatic relations with the European Union, and the EU is currently Brazil's main trading and investment partner.

The relationship between Brazil and the EU is governed by the EU-Brazil framework cooperation agreement of 1992, which was upgraded to a wider scope of cooperation through to a Strategic Partnership in 2007. This partnership gave rise to a close cooperation in the domain of Research & Innovation, leading to joint projects with EU funding in the context of the Horizon 2020 R&I Framework Programme. The EU and Brazil plan on further strengthening this collaboration as part of Horizon Europe, the successor of Horizon 2020.

Additionally, a joint declaration was signed between the European Commission (DG CONNECT) and Brazil (Ministry of Communications) on Strategic Collaboration on 5G to enhance cooperation on aligning strategies to facilitate the emergence of global standards for 5G and to explore further possibilities for cooperating on, and implementing, joint R&D actions and projects in the field of 5G as well as encouraging companies, academia and researchers to seek partnerships on both sides and proceed with exchanges of experts.

InDico will work towards establishing a similar level of collaboration at standardisation level, with a view to promoting alignment of standards used for ICT in Brazil, its region and in Europe.

InDiCo will support the implementation of the 5G declaration and help identify specific needs from Brazil that would need to be taken into account in the development of 5G and its evolutions by bringing together key users of 5G in the country and enabling a dialogue with the community of experts to gather Brazil's use cases and requirements. The project will in particular build on the existing relationship between the 5G Brasil association and the 5G Infrastructure Association in Europe.

InDiCo will in addition support students and startups in getting a hands-on understanding of the the oneM2M Common Service Layer, a key enabler for the smart city transformation taking place at a global scale.
