With the support of the InDiCo project, ETSI and the European Commission were invited to present at the digital CERTFORUM 2021 held with Brazil online from September 21st to September 23rd (https://certforum.iti.gov.br/2021/forum/). This event organized by the Brazil's National Institute for Information Technology (Instituto Nacional De Tecnologia da Informaçao (ITI)) gathered governmental and industry experts in Digital Signature and Public Key Infrastructure.
The European Commission (EC) and ETSI have participated to two workshop sessions as a result of a close cooperation between Europe and Brazil in the digital domain. They have shared and expressed their view on Digital Signature.
On September 22nd, 2021, during the EU -eIDAS session, an Introduction to the eIDAS Trust Services (eSignatures/eSeals), to the Mutual Recognition of Qualified Trust Services, and to new eIDAS 2.0 regulation has been made by Georgios LAPPAS – Policy Officer – Directorate-General for Communication Networks, Content and Technology (CNECT) and by Tolis Apostolos APLADAS – Policy Officer – Directorate General for Informatics (DIGIT)
A second session on the standardization approach in Europe has been leaded by Wilson Hirata from ITI. Xavier Piednoir – Manager of the InDiCo project at ETSI had the opportunity to present ETSI's role in global standards setting. ETSI aims at bringing the best technical experts together to develop free open and global standards in the digital domain. The key topic of interoperability, interworking and mutual recognition of standards in the different region of the world was discussed.
Nick Pope – Vice-Chairman of the Technical Committee on Electronic Signature and Infrastructure at ETSI shared the European Standardization approach in the electronic Identity and Digital Signature (eIDAS) domain. A comprehensive presentation of the European Standards currently available as well of the list of working groups supporting this topic were presented.
The exchange highlighted the importance of a common approach between Europe and Brazil on Digital Signature and PKI infrastructure building on the first steps of technical cooperation already initiated between ETSI and ITI.
