ONEM2M WORKSHOP, TRAINING AND HACKATHON IN CHINA
From November 11 to November 13, 2020, SCSC and ETSI jointly organized a workshop on IoT oneM2M standards in Jinan, Shandong Province, followed by an advanced training and the first oneM2M hackathon in China, with the support of CCSA.
This event was held remotely between Europe and the campus of the Qilu University of Technology (QLUT - Shandong Academy of Science) in Jinan, Shandong Province of China.
It was sponsored by CCSA (China Communications Standards Association) and ETSI, and chaired by senior representatives of QLUT and Shandong Computer Science Center (SCSC – National Supercomputing Center in Jinan), the Shandong New Generation Standardisation Institute and the Shandong Association of IoT.
This event was organized by ETSI in partnership with SCSC and oneM2M, in the context of the EU-funded project InDiCo and of the QUT-funded project KeJiaoRongHe.
Workshop on IoT oneM2M Standards on November 11, 2020
On the first day of the workshop, the oneM2M standard (www.onem2m.org) was introduced as a promising solution for IoT cross-domain interoperability. Official opening remarks of the workshop were made by:
- Luis J. Romero, Director General of ETSI
- Yang Zemin, Secretary General of CCSA
- Yang Meihong, Director of SCSC
- Xu Hong of Jinan Administration of Market Regulation
They expressed their support to the International cooperation in IoT standardization and presented the development perspectives of the IoT industry.
The oneM2M Partnership leaders and technical community experts made formal presentations on the following agenda items:
- oneM2M Vision for IoT interoperability
- oneM2M Implementations
- the IoT ecosystem in China
- oneM2M Organization and Standards Roadmap
- oneM2M Security Framework
- oneM2M Testing and Certification
- oneM2M Semantics Interoperability.
On top of this, a presentation of the ongoing EU-China cooperation in standardization was made by Ms. Betty XU of SESEC and closing remarks to the workshop by Xavier PIEDNOIR of ETSI.
We would like to thank all speakers who contributed to the success of this workshop:
- Enrico Scarrone, Chair of oneM2M Steering Committee
- Roland Hechwartner, Chair of oneM2M Technical Plenary
- Dale Seed, Chair of oneM2M System Design & Security Working Group
- Li Yonghua, Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications
- Su Guanqun, Secretary General of Shandong Association for IoT
- Wei Zhou, Vice-Chair of oneM2M System Design & Security Working Group
- Asif Hamidullah, Head of Certification for IoT & Verticals of the Global Certification Forum

Advanced oneM2M Training on November 12-13, 2020
One the second and third day of the event, the advanced oneM2M training was delivered to the QLUT students by oneM2M experts from the Korea Electronics Technology Institute (KETI) in South Korea, Mr. SeungMyeong JEONG and Mr. Yungi PARK.
The support material of this advanced training is available for replay in the format of tutorial videos to the oneM2M community worldwide on the oneM2M YouTube channel at the following link:

The audience targeted by this training were software architects and developers, academic and industrial researchers, as well as students with software development skills and some experience in IoT solution development.
75 students followed this oneM2M advanced developers’ training. They were asked to follow practical sessions to learn how to quickly integrate heterogeneous IoT devices and develop IoT applications based on opensource implementations of the oneM2M standard.
Following the two days of training, the students participating in the hackathon were given two weeks to prepare, develop and test their projects, using IoT hardware kits.
Hackathon winners’ Awards ceremony on December 16, 2020
6 prizes were formally awarded to the winning teams of 3 or 4 students during the award ceremony which took place on Dec 16th, 2020. Winners were congratulated for their work and invited to join the worldwide oneM2M developers’ community.
This event contributed to the promotion of the oneM2M standard, increasing its visibility in China and paving the way for further developments and implementation of IoT oneM2M standards by Chinese firms and researchers.
